How does it work?
For Group Leaders – What You Need to Know
Good news: Marc and Amy, Milan and Kay do all the teaching! Your role as a Group Leader is to help keep the group on track by following the detailed session instructions in the Leader’s Guide.
Before leading your group, it’s helpful (but not required) to:
- Read How We Love Our Kids
- Watch the Streaming Video Series
✅ What You’ll Need as a Group Leader:
You’ll need the Study Group Leader Kit, which includes:
- 🎥 The How We Love Our Kids Workshop (Streaming Video Series)
A 6-hour video workshop taught by Marc and Amy, Milan, and Kay. (Streaming link provided upon purchase, which you access through your HWL.com account.) - 📘 Group Leader’s Guide
Step-by-step instructions to lead each session, which include how to guide participants through the skill-building exercises, discussion questions, and homework assignments. - 📝 Workshop Syllabus
Used alongside the video sessions. Milan and Kay refer to it frequently while teaching. This is the syllabus given to live attendees of the workshop.
❗️Please note: These materials are copyrighted. We respectfully ask that you do not duplicate or share them outside your group. The streaming video is available immediately after purchase. The syllabi and guides are provided as downloadable PDFs.
👥 Your Role as the Leader:
- Invite Participants: You’ll be responsible for inviting couples or individuals to join the group.
- Plan Your Setting:
- In larger venues, use tables of 8–10 people
- In homes, limit groups to 5–6 couples (or fewer)
- Promote Group Interaction: Group discussion is essential to this experience. Aim for a setting that’s quiet and free of distractions (no phones, barking dogs, or crying kids if possible).
📦 Each Participant Will Need:
A Group Participant Kit, which includes:
- Participant Guide
- Workshop Syllabus
📧 Tip: Email your participants with the group dates, times, and a link to order their materials ahead of time.
⏱ How to Structure Each Session:
- Video Length: Each session is approximately 40 minutes
- Total Session Time: Plan for at least 90 minutes to allow time for both the video and meaningful group discussion
🗣 Leading the Group Well:
- Review the Questions beforehand so you’re prepared
- If needed, share a brief example from your own experience to encourage conversation
- Don’t fear silence—give people space to reflect
💬 Vulnerability matters: You don’t need to have perfect kids to lead other parents. What’s most important is a willingness to grow and be open about your own journey—your struggles, your wins, and your own learning process.
If you’re co-leading with your spouse, be sure to talk in advance about your boundaries around sharing personal stories, so you’re both comfortable.
