As authors of How We Love, we are often asked for referrals for therapists or helpers who understand the principles in How We Love and who acknowledge the importance of attachment and development in helping individuals and couples. While more therapists are using Attachment Theory in their work, few are paying attention to the predictable core patterns created when attachment histories collide within a marriage relationship. Due to the overwhelming response to our book, we have developed a mode of couples’ therapy called Attachment Core Pattern Therapy™ (ACPT).
Our list includes licensed therapists, coaches, pastoral counselors, and group leaders. Everyone listed on our site has completed two courses.
- The six-hour ACPT Therapist Training taught by Milan and Kay Yerkovich
- The 16 sessions of a couple’s three-day intensive led by Milan and Kay Yerkovich
Of course, experience is the best teacher. Training alone does not make a good therapist, coach, or lay counselor. For Milan and me (Kay), the couples in our offices have taught us more than we could have ever imagined. Innate intuition, training, and experience all combine to make a therapist or helper successful with couples. We think that applying the principles to our own life before we taught others made us far more effective, as we had experienced the need for the courage, tenacity, and vulnerability required for growth.
All therapists, helpers, and leaders receiving our training, supervision, or consultation are responsible for the therapy or help they provide. Licensed therapists are responsible for receiving appropriate supervision, as required, by their respective governing and/or licensing authorities. We cannot assume any ethical or legal responsibility for the work of any therapist, leader, or helper on our referral list. All licensed therapists listed on our Therapist Referral Network practice independently in their states, provinces, or countries, and Milan and Kay Resources Incorporated do not monitor their work. Each therapist and helper are on the honor system to affirm they meet the listed requirements to be certified in our method. If your therapist’s spiritual orientation is important to you, ask them in your interview for this information.
