Last week, we learned that as we enter into relationship with God by receiving the good news of the gospel, we are given a new standing before God in which we are eternally secure.
Having this new security, we are then allowed to live in a state of grace which allows us to grow in a standing of full acceptance by God.
As we enter into the family of God, we are to congregate in local churches and the ministry of the church is to help us develop a new found depth of love with our Heavenly Father and with others. The Great Commandment says:
“You shall love the Lord God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your strength;
and your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27).
So, I think it is safe to say that salvation and growth most clearly will involve improved relationships…with God and with others.
The problem, is that because marriages, families, jobs and churches form significant / primary relationships… our attachment wounds from Adam and Eve and Mom and Dad are reopened.
Yet it is only when they are reopened that we become aware of them. And it is at this point we are given an opportunity to heal from the effects and negative influences of these families of origin. The Bible states:
“And He (Christ) gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ
until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man,to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ
The word “equip” means to build up and repair.
The same Greek word is used in Matthew and Mark of the disciples mending the holes in their fishing nets.
I don’t know about you, but when I received Christ as my savior, I was quite tattered and torn by life… I had lots of holes, rips and tears which made me a poor lover of God, myself and others. I needed lots of work… but I was excited when I realized that the Church and the above gifted persons were in place to help restore and build me toward a mature man who over a life time would more resemble Jesus Christ.
Wow… an opportunity for rehabilitation and the repair of all the ruptures.
Thanks for listening, and have a great Christmas month.
Love and blessings,
Milan & Kay
