Perspective 3: Fix Your Hope

After walking with the Lord for 38 years I am sure of three things.

God loves me.

I am saved through the work of Christ on the cross.

My story has a happy ending.

Nothing else is sure.

There are times in life I am disappointed in the world around me and weary of pain and brokenness.

At these times, I go to a favorite verse in I peter 1:13.  “Set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Let me share one other verse that goes right along with this.  “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Read that again.

You cannot even imagine your future in heaven.

It’s beyond your wildest imagination.

And God is preparing it with you in mind.

Imagine a pink sunset washed across the sky, an aqua blue ocean with white foam licking a long stretch of beach.

Recall your most tender moment with a loved one; a time you felt most known and loved in the presence of another.

Call to mind the most beautiful music you have ever heard and the sweetest harmony of clear, pure notes.

It’s barely a taste, a muted view, a faint resonance of what’s coming.

The only thing that brought Jesus comfort when he went to the cross was the joy set before him.

He despised the shame of hanging naked, bearing the filth of sin and accepting the punishment of God for your sin and mine.  (Heb 12:2).  He had to look to the future to a larger perspective to endure suffering.

Is today a time when you need to do the same thing?

There is a joy set before you.

Dwell on the hope God has set before you because no matter what difficulty you are enduring today; your story has a happy ending.

Thanks for listening,

Love and Blessings,
